The theme of studies in art and music for 2009-2010 will be the people, art , music, dance, clothing, language and customs of Asian countries. There will be a concentration on China, Japan and India. Projects include Japanese gardens, pop up castles, calligraph
y, papermaking, batik, block printing, origami, Kodomo-no Hi (Boys Kite Festival in May) Hina Matsuri (Girls Doll Festival in March), Soba vs sushi cooking & eating!

Grades 4,5 &6: bring a sturdy cardboard box (max. 15″ , min 10″) or a plastic wash tub as the base for their garden and a spaghetti box with a window. If students wish to have a working water feature in their garden (not required) they will be charged $10 for the pump and 2/D batteries.
3D Japanese Garden projects in grades 4-6 are in the last stages. We hope to put them on display on Main St. and in the cafeteria in January.
K-3 are creating pop-up Japanese Temple Garden books
After school, private music lessons begin in October. Ms. McMahon teaches guitar, bass, sax, clarinet on Tues/Wed.
Mr. Dinicola teaches drumming Mon. and Saturday. Mrs. Forholtz teaches violin on Tuesdays. Mrs. Genette teaches

We currently have 6 students studying guitar, 2 on saxophone, 2 on clarinet, 12 on piano, 6 on drums, and 6 on violin.
Blue Notes school band rehearses on Mon. 11:20-11:50 and Thurs. 2:20-2:55. Auditions will be in October.
The Blue Notes first concert was presented on Veteran’s Day. Our set list included You’re a Grand Old Flag and When the Saints Go Marching In.
