Welcome to Kindergarten. “Everything you need to know, you learned in Kindergarten.” Both Kindergarten classes start the year working on social skills as well as learning how to be a friend to one another. We continue on to the academics through a multisensory approach of letter names, colors, shapes, phoenemic awareness and seasonal activities. We coordinate math through the use of the Houghton-Mifflin Math Series and we use the Zaner-Bloser Writing Program as well as ‘Handwriting Without Tears’. Reading readiness is stressed throughout the year with the use of the Fundations approach to reading, as well as the Telian approach. The Zaner Bloser reading books are used on an individual basis and in small group settings.
Seasons are a favorite course of study as the children relate to the climate, adaptations, and holidays within the seasons. Various themes are interspersed within the seasons which allow the children to experience real things, thus enhancing student interest.
By the end of Kindergarten the children are ready to move on to greater things.
