READING VERIFICATION SLIPS

§          You should be reading at home nightly.  You will also be reading in school.

§          You should only be reading one book at a time.  That book should come to school and be brought home every school day.

§          Your books should have about 100 pages.  If you want to read a shorter book, have it approved by Mrs. Szymanski.  Choosing longer books should be done wisely.  Remember your monthly goal! At least one of your books must be fiction.

§          One of these slips needs to be completed, signed by a parent, and brought to school for each book read.

§            If you meet your goal you will receive a shiny new pencil.

§          Rate books on a scale of 1-10, 1= you would not recommend it, 10 = fantastic, highly recommend it

§         Keep this on your refrigerator or in another safe place at home.  Start cutting off slips at the bottom.

Yay Reading!

The important thing about Mrs. Szymanski is that she has been teaching fourth grade Reading and Language Arts at Lanesborough Elementary School since 1994. She loves teaching Reading, which includes fluency, vocabulary, and comprehension. Writing is a wonderful challenge and fourth graders always rise to the occasion. Fourth graders should always write in cursive. Spelling means a lot to Mrs. Szymanski, especially the spelling of her name. HEEHEE! But the important thing about Mrs. Szymanski is that she has been teaching fourth grade Reading and Language Arts at Lanesborough Elementary School since 1994.

At the beginning of the last school year, fourth graders decided upon these classroom expectations.

Fourth Graders will show RESPECT by…

not being mean to others

looking at the person who’s talking

raising their hands to answer questions

not shouting out the answer

listening to the speaker

talking one at a time

not excluding others

not talking rudely to classmates

not making fun of others

sharing supplies

picking up books

treating others kindly

not yelling

helping people when they fall

putting up chairs

picking up messes

paying attention to teachers

not fooling around.

• Students are expected to keep their agendas with them at all times except during visits to the restroom, recess, lunch, and specialist classes. The agenda needs to come to school every day.

• All homework and assignments are to be recorded in the agenda daily. Homework assignments will always be written on Agenda Boards.

• There will be an at-home reading assignment in the agenda each day. We ask that parents monitor at-home reading and initial in the space provided next to the assignment.

• Students are to show parents all finished homework.

• Students are to ask parents to check their homework and ask you sign in the space provided at the bottom of each page in the agenda.  It is the student’s responsibility to get this done.

• Each day, teachers will check for finished homework and signed agendas. It is expected that agendas are signed and all homework is done.

• Students will stay in the classroom and have a late lunch if agendas aren’t signed and/or if homework isn’t done.

• Students who have met all expectations will receive a stamp in their agendas. For every ten stamps, students will receive a reward.

We hope that this will increase school/home communication. Please feel free to use the agenda for any notes, questions, or information for us. Let us know what’s going on. If something unexpected comes up and homework cannot be completed, use the agenda to keep us informed.
