Physical Education, Mr. Kevin Dowling, Physical Education

During the first week of Physical Education classes, appropriate dress, class rules and fire drill procedure were explained to all students.  Here are some items mentioned at that time which you may find informative.

WHAT TO WEAR:

1) Sneakers-laces are preferred as Velcro does not provide a consistently snug fit and therefore doesn’t offer the best support and stability for PE activities.  In class we do a lot of running, jumping and moving so sneakers which have a maximum amount of cushion are best.  High healed or extra thick soled sneakers are not recommended, as they will put undue stress upon the ankles.  Children who forget their sneakers will not participate in class that day unless the activity can be done safely without sneakers.

2) Play Clothes- Please wear clothes that will not be harmed by dirt- they will get dirty!

WHAT NO TO WEAR:

1) dresses, skirts, ties, boots,”sneaker/hiking boots, flip flops, or sandals.

2) Jewelry of any kind, with the exception of pierced earrings.  As long as the earring does not hang or dangle off the earlobe, these will be fine.

        JANUARY  15   2010

Happy New Year ! Start  2010  off right by making every effort to stay active during these cold  weather months. There are many outside activities that children and families can enjoy at this time of  year.

Please help your child remember their sneakers on the days they have Physical Education. Many children leave a pair of sneakers in their locker as boots are usually worn to school. Wet sneakers are unsafe on the Gym floor. You will find a schedule of classes in the previous posting.

I am in need of two items:

                                                                  1.     Used tennis balls   (clean)

                                                                   2.    Half-gallon plastic jugs     (clean)    milk, juice, water etc.

What’s next?     Floor hockey, scoops, pillo polo, parachute, gymnastics…..
