I would like to introduce myself and explain the services I offer to the students and parents at Lanesborough School. I have been working with children and families for 41 years, including 15 years as a classroom teacher.
I have a full time assistant named Inky (short for Inquisitive). He is a certified therapy dog who helps children in a myriad of ways. Inky is also a certified R.E.A.D. dog, (Reading Education Assistance Dog) who works with reluctant readers.
As the school counselor,I work with individual students and their families . I also offer peer groups for students dealing with such issues as:
- Improving social skills
- Anger management
- Stress and anxiety
- Dealing with illness, loss or death
- Divorce
- Self-esteem
- Self regulation
- Any other social/emotional issues
I am also the character educator and work with all the classrooms on issues such as bullying prevention, conflict resolution, teaching tolerance, making good choices, etc.
In addition I assist students with The Reflection Form process. As children develop through the elementary years, they are learning how to treat others and how to meet their needs in positive ways. When students make a poor behavior choice, they meet with me to reflect on their actions, take responsibility, learn how to make amends, and make a plan for better choices next time.
